Buy a New computer or Upgrade Your Current One?

Before you go running out to the store there are a couple of things to consider.
  • What is the cost of upgrading the old computer as opposed to purchasing a new computer? It very well could be that just adding more RAM and doing a fresh load of the operating system will make your old machine run like new.
  • What are you going to use the computer for? Are you going to surf the net and do some emailing? Are you going to run your business from the computer? A combination of the first two? Or are you going to play high-end graphics intense games or run programs like Auto-Cad?

These are questions you need to ask yourself before you make the final decision. These answers determine what type of computer you need and how much you will have to spend (to a point).

Today buying a computer can be looked at very much like buying a new house. You won't go out and buy a 16-bedroom mansion with a 4-car garage for just the 2 of you and neither owns or drives a vehicle. So you should not buy a Pentium 4 computer with a 3.6Ghz Quad Core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive if all you are going to do is send emails, surf the internet, play solitaire and maybe keep your household expense records.
