Are you guilty of a common mistake that will age you by 2 weeks? |
Every new year we make resolutions to start a “clean slate.” We excitedly set goals only to have them fizzle out in a short time. I am suggesting a goal that will ....
last you a life time and some short term goals as well. Your long term goal starts with ‘A Clean Start to 2008!’ A clean start both morning and night means well cared for skin. Did you know that going to bed with make-up on, ages you by two weeks! Have you ever been so tired you thought “Oh just tonight, I won’t bother.” Get rid of the make-up and oil and let your face rejuvenate while you sleep. This is another common mistake for those of you who don’t wear make-up, thinking you don’t have to cleanse. There are cells to slough off, facial oil and pollutants to remove to let your skin breathe easier while you sleep. It is easy to develop a habit of cleansing. You just need some preparation and that includes a good cleanser, toner (without alcohol) if you choose and a moisturizer for your skin type. Take the time to read the labels and please avoid these ingredients, petroleum and anything with laureth sulphate or lauryl sulphate. I can recommend more natural products if you need assistance. In the morning, think of yourself as an artist starting a new painting on a fresh canvas. So for the long term, make it a habit to cleanse and moisturize twice a day! Here are some short term resolutions for your Clean Start To 2008:
- Wash your make-up brushes and sponges and don’t forget the applicator in your compact. Personally I wash my foundation sponge with some liquid soap every time I use it. Your brushes harbour bacteria which you keep spreading around your face with each use.
Rinse your brushes under warm water and put a little shampoo in the palm of your hand (I prefer to use Shaklee Basic H since it is gentle and bio-degradable). Swirl the brush in it and rinse it well. You may have to do this several times if you have let make-up build up. Squeeze the bristles gently in a towel and let them air dry. Your brushes will last longer and it will be healthier for your skin.
- When did you last change your mascara tube? Mascara is another great place for bacteria to grow. Replace mascara every 3 to 6 months. One of my clients faithfully calls me every change of season (every equinox) to buy new mascara. Smart lady!
- Out with the old, make way for the new! Give yourself a few minutes to sort through your make-up and throw out stuff if a) it doesn’t suit your skin undertone (warm or cool) b) it smells funny or is past an expiry date c) the consistency is off. Choose at least 4 items to say good-bye to.
Give yourself a treat to new make-up and a fresh look to start a new year. It is very up-lifting and rejuvenating! If you need new mascara call me. I highly recommend Mary Kay’s Ultimate mascara for wear ability and to improve lash length. For a foundation treat, that is also good for your skin, it contains no talc, and feels light as a feather on your skin, come by to sample Minerelles made by Shaklee.
