Compact Fluorescent Lights |

ATTENTION:
I just received this notice in an information package from a former real estate agent.
I have heard from others how 'dangerous' these new bulbs can be/are. Any amount of mercury is too much!
We must all be aware of the dangers of these new bulbs we are being encouraged to use and 'handle with care'.

Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) may be the light of the future to take the place of incandescent bulbs. CFLs use up to 75% less electricity and last up to 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb. Once known to have a cold, uninviting light, CFLs are now available with that warm glow many have appreciated in the incandescent light.
As the popularity of the energy-saving bulb has increased, there are a few things to know about the use and care.
CFLs do contain a very small amount of mercury so take care in the handling and disposal. When installing or changing the light bulb, hold the plastic section at the bottom to screw it in or out of the receptacle, this will decrease the chance of breakage. If a bulb does break, it is suggested you clear out of the room for at least 15 min. before cleaning up while ventilating as much as possible by opening doors and windows. Once the room had been ventilated, use disposable gloves and pick up the large pieces of glass. Use tape to pick up any powder or small pieces of glass left over. Put all the broken pieces and garbage in a sealable plastic bag and dispose as per your local regulations.
