Segregated funds are a Canadian insurance product and are only offered to Canadians.

Quite simply, your principal investment has two guarantees. A maturity guarantee and a death benefit guarantee. Eg. If your portfolio dropped from $100,000 to $50,000 at time of death …you would be guaranteed $100,000 (death benefit guarantee). The maturity guarantee returns are the highest locked in assets in a 15 yr. period) In addition all segregated funds also bypass probate, saving you costly probate fees.

Segregated funds can be registered or non-registered. The bottom line for segregated fund owners is that:
