Is It Okay to Leave Your Computer on 24/7?

To leave your computer on 24/7 or not?

I remember hearing this mentioned many times over the years.  If you just leave your computer on 24/7 it is better for it as you save wear and tear on the components.
A BIG thumbs down—totally false.  Aren’t we all supposed to be trying to save on energy consumption?
Robert Strohmeyer from PC World asked some “top tech types at HP, Seagate, and other major companies.  Apparently none of them know how this rumour even started but they did all agree that is was not true.”
Our computers become obsolete long before they wear out.
“Seagate (a large manufacturer of hard drives) staff engineer Billy Ruddock says, Turning off the system is usually best to prolong hard-drive life.  Unless you’re talking about servers, most computers’ hard disks are simply not designed for continuous operation.”
Windows operating system execute various important housekeeping tasks during shutdown and startup—another very good reason for turning off a system.”
